Samuel Quarles
Student-athlete. Computer science. Technology exploration. Business-minded builder.

About
I'm Samuel. I'm a junior at UC Berkeley studying Computer Science with a minor in Political Economy, and I swim for Cal Men's Swimming & Diving. I grew up in a Navy family, moving coast to coast multiple times before landing in Coronado, CA. That kind of life teaches you how to adapt fast, meet people well, and make the most of wherever you are.
I've always been someone who builds things. I co-founded a startup, worked in business development at an AI company, and led go-to-market strategy for early-stage products. I like the space where technology meets people, where a good product still needs someone who can communicate its value and close the deal.
I also genuinely enjoy running YouTube channels. When I was younger I built LonerFN to 30,000 subscribers and over 8 million views, which taught me more about SEO, audience growth, and content strategy than any class could. Now I run my personal channel, Sam Qua, as a passion project and creative outlet.
When I'm not in the pool, in class, or working on something, you'll probably find me with a Celsius in hand. I'm also currently trying to start liking coffee, which is going about as well as you'd expect.

Cal Men's Swimming & Diving
Where it all started, and where it keeps shaping everything.

Swimming started simple. My dad was in the Navy, so he and my mom wanted my sister and I to be safe around the water (which paid off since I never lived more than 10 minutes from the beach). As a result we joined the local base swim team. What began as a safety thing turned into something I fell in love with and have been able to pursue all the way through college graduation.
Before Berkeley, I was ranked the 24th overall recruit in the Class of 2023, earned multiple Junior National titles, set a Junior National Record, and held 27 San Diego Swimming records. In 2024, I raced at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Indianapolis, which was one of the most intense and rewarding experiences of my life.
At Cal, I've been part of the National Runner-Up team and earned CSCAA Academic All-American honors. Swimming taught me that consistency beats talent, that showing up every day matters more than any single performance, and that the habits you build in the pool carry into everything else you do.
